When Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was relieved of his duties as Manchester United manager at the weekend, it was far from a surprise for most people, but perhaps more striking was the fact that it took the Premier League's sacking total for 2021/22 to six, and we're still in November.
It seems that the days of English clubs giving their managers time to build a project may be a thing of a nostalgic past.
There have always been boards that were more or less patient, but, in a climate of ever-increasing urgency, we might never see a manager build a real legacy again, the way that the likes of Arsene Wenger and Alex Ferguson did. The former won hardly anything at Arsenal between 2005 and 2014, something it is hard to believe that any club would accept these days.
Clubs want results and they want them yesterday. The trend has been heading that way for some time, but with almost a third of Premier League clubs having changed their head coach before December, the short-term culture seems more pronounced than ever.
What has happened this season?
Solskjaer became the sixth, but before him went Dean Smith (Aston Villa), Daniel Farke (Norwich), Nuno Espirito Santo (Spurs), Steve Bruce (Newcastle) and Xisco Munoz (Watford).
That total of six is already more than the number of Premier League managers who were fired in the whole of last season: just four.
LaLiga Santander going at its usual pace
The decision-makers at Spanish clubs are traditionally more trigger-happy when it comes to their head coaches and this season is no different.
The Spanish top flight has averaged 13 coaches removed per season in recent years. Last season was a rare exception with just seven sackings.
In 2021/22 so far, four head coaches have lost their job: Michel (Getafe), Fran Escriba (Elche), Paco Lopez (Levante) and Ronald Koeman (Barcelona).
Serie A tends to post a similar turnover of coaches, while in France and Germany things are usually a bit calmer and managers can breathe a little easier.
With the Premier League seeming to grow in impatience, the question is whether it is justified. Perhaps the rest of the season will tell, in more ways than one.

It's not the clubs who r becoming impatient but the people. A club direct it's move based on the prevailing atmosphere in the city. So here blame should not be tagged on club owners but the people. All people nowadays has become increasingly impatient. The world is moving faster than in the 90's. Imagine what it shall be in 20 yrs onwards.

Sacking Nuno was very harsh...he only got 2-3 months....may be it was down to the fact that Conte was available and ready to coach...and spurs used the opportunity..and i think its paying dividends for Spurs

Of course. One of the best if not the best football league in the world requires much expectations which means result should be your ticket to stay or leave.

3 years is definitely not impatient! if manutd under Ole could still maintain top 4 till the end of this season, Ole would still be around

its hurt when a legend became coach and failed. every legend who wants to be a coach need to practice first in samall club. like xavi, gerrad, vierra doing. club should not sign legend who have no experience like lampard, ole before. this way epl team won't get inpatient

Impatient coz every team want to have a successful season. A team cannot sit and watch rivals win trophies every season while only wiping the trophies cabinet with nothing to put in.
