A tribute to former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold appears to have been vandalised hours before his Champions League return to Anfield with Real Madrid
The mural of former Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly been defaced hours before his Anfield comeback with Real Madrid. The England international left the Premier League champions under a cloud after leaving for La Liga following the expiry of his contract.
The two-time Premier League and Champions League-winning full-back faces a hostile reception upon his reunion with Arne Slot and his former teammates. And hours before the showdown on Merseyside, images have emerged on social media depicting graffiti on the mural.
White paint appears to have been splashed across the painting with various 'rat' references and a message in Spanish which roughly translates to: "Adios the rat."
It could be the second time in under six months that the tribute has been vandalised after the message: 'rat' was left, shortly before his departure.
The mural was produced in 2019, arranged by Liverpool fan podcast The Anfield Wrap, as a way to commemorate the Champions League-winning season and inspire the younger generation.
The painting, situated on Sybid Road in the shadow of the 61,000-seater stadium, showcases Alexander-Arnold and his number 66 shirt with the quote from the night after their triumph in the Wanda Metropolitano: I'm just a normal lad from Liverpool, whose dream has just come true."
Slot was drawn on what kind of reception he anticipated the full-back will receive at Anfield on Tuesday. The Liverpool head coach admitted that he was unsure about the response from the crowd but said he would receive a "warm welcome" from the Dutchman.
“I can only tell you what kind of reception he gets from me; I have great memories of the player and the human being," he said.
"He was my vice captain last season and I have memories of working with him which were only positive and have memories from watching him on television which were only positive as well – I can remember multiple great moments of his in a Liverpool shirt.
"He will get a warm welcome from me. Let's first wait and see if he is on the pitch tomorrow.
"How the fans [respond] I have no clue how that's going to be but he gets a warm welcome from me, that's for sure."

Liverpool dont apriciate their own English players thats why they are running away from Liverpool,Liverpool like foreigners and they treat them nicely compared to local players, thats why their recent academy players are running away,Conor Bradely might also leave next season....both Jota and Arnold are their Legends but they are showing much love on Jota who is already dead..they must take example from Madrid and City when they welcome back their Legends like we did to De Bruyne and Walker....

The rivalry continues but only in football. To those of you who get this wrong, did you see what Newcastle players did to Ekitike, and he smiled it off. These things are bound to happen. I just pray the match ends without physical violence from the fans because the chants will come.
