Danny Welbeck suffered a horrible-looking leg injury in Arsenal's 0-0 draw with Sporting CP in the Europa League on Thursday.
Match Events
17' CLEARED OFF THE LINE! Welbeck almost scores
Arsenal switch things up as Guendouzi attacks down the right flank this time and space is equally easy to come by. He drills a low cross in towards the near post where Welbeck meets it with a back-heel, but Mathieu gets a slight block on it before Coates manages to clear it off the line!
30' Welbeck forced off on stretcher
Arsenal players were left looking on in distraught as Danny Welbeck was carried off the pitch on a stretcher after suffering a serious injury in their clash with Sporting Lisbon. The striker required an oxygen mask as he was treated on the pitch, with a leg brace also in place. The striker had landed awkwardly on his ankle while trying to attack a header.
46' CHANCE! Aubameyang's shot wide out
Aubameyang has scored four goals in three substitute appearances in all competitions for Arsenal this season.
74' Lichtsteiner goes off injured
Lichtsteiner requires treatment after going down under no contact, appearing to tweak a hamstring. He's able to walk off under his own power eventually, which is hopefully a good sign regarding the severity of the injury.
Match Report
Arsenal booked their place in the Europa League knockout stages after a 0-0 draw with 10-man Sporting CP that was marred by an injury to Danny Welbeck.
The point – combined with Vorskla losing 1-0 to Qarabag – was enough to ensure a top-two place for the Gunners in Group E, but the performance left much to be desired.
A lack of fire power meant the few openings the Gunners were able to create went begging, while Sporting - who had Jeremy Mathieu sent off late on - offered even less in the final third.

Was a nice game...but we were kinda wasteful and sporting's tackles were kinda menacing... I hope to see more than this in our next game. Gunners for life.

Sigh! Despite being through to the knockout stage, that wasn’t a good performance from the gunners. Anyways we looking on the brighter side of things 🥳

I hope Danny welbeck is okay. He is a key player for the squad be it a Europa match or an epl match - whether he starts or subs in he has great ball control and isn't selfish. Hope he's back on track sooner than what it looked out there on the pitch today. Unai has definitely made some descent squad decisions which is why the gunners have had a 15 game undefeated streak. Hopefully with some of the injuries happening the gunners can have a descent 1st and 2nd squad for all match ups even if it means some of the key starters have less playing time- I say this because some of younger gents have great potential and the only way to truly have them shine courageously is for them to be put into a position that will challenge them! Gunners for life!
