Alli and Son Heung-Min have Tottenham put their recent north London derby woes behind them, with progression to the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup at the expense of bitter rivals Arsenal.
Match Events
8' Ramsey's long shot wide out
WIDE! Iwobi receives the ball from Ramsey just inside the Spurs half and his trickery puts Trippier off trying to tackle him.
12' Mkhitaryan wastes a golden chance
HOW HAS HE MISSED THAT?! A wonderfully worked one-two between Mkhitaryan and Ramsey sees the former played clean through on goal, but he can't beat Gazzaniga! The keeper did well to react, but Mkhitaryan's shot was too close to him. That had to be hitting the back of the net!
20'GOAL! Arsenal 0-1 Tottenham (Son Heung-Min)
FIRST BLOOD TOTTENHAM! 1-0 SPURS! Route-one football as Gazzaniga's drop-kick falls for Alli, who plays Son through over the top and the forward makes no mistake, lifting a finish beyond the reach of Cech and in at the far post!
59' GOAL! Arsenal 0-2 Tottenham (Alli)
Spurs lead 2-0! Kane doesn't just score goals! A stunning ball over the top plays Alli through, and the midfielder takes a lovely first touch before producing a sensational finish to chip Cech and slot the ball in at the far post!
Match reports
Arsenal suffered a second straight defeat after going 22 games unbeaten, with Tottenham reaching the EFL Cup semi-finals at their expense.
Mauricio Pochettino's team went down 4-2 when the sides met in a fiery north London derby on December 2, but Alli's impudent finish in the 59th minute added to Son Heung-min's opener to send Spurs into the final four for the first time since 2014-15.
A banana was thrown on the pitch after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a penalty in the teams' previous encounter and on Wednesday Alli was hit by a bottle thrown from the stands, responding with a '2-0' gesture to the fans.

Arsenal showed no heart for a Derby game, even worse is that it's st the Emirates. Was a dreadful performance and they're slowly going back to their old ways. Emery got his work cut out for him.... Arsenal are gonna go back to joke club status if this continues.... And if any Arsenal fan dares blame Cech since he's one of the top scapegoats in their list, just remember that he had basically no back line in front of him and unlike Leno, didn't let in 3 simple headers.....

The first half gave a sense that it was an open game as the Gunners weren't very bad but were weak enough so that Spurs could take advantage. The early signs for the second half were positive for the gunners but unfortunately Spurs were far too intelligent and humbled Arsenal at their own turf. This match is a clear indication of the vast potential of Spurs and how they've got themselves revolutionalized under the guidance of Pochettino and a lesson for Arsenal of how much ground they've lost to their rivals since the last few seasons and how much Emery have to work further ahead. P.S.Do stop blaming Cech as it wasn't his fault.Iwobi shouldn't have started but Lacazette should have.

Maitland-Miles needs to go back to youth academy because he is not ready for the big league yet and Mihki needs to be left out for 'tactical reasons' like Ozil. Xhaka a CB was a mistake as was starting Iwobi. Start Ramsey, Lacazette and Auba once please. Poor performance for the Gunners, from being unbeaten to losing two consecutive matches.

So now even 2nd halves are not ours anymore 🤔 Anyway, as we lost the 1st 2 games at the beginning of this season, I believe these 2 matches that we've lost this week, will give us enough charge for the rest of the season. 💪🏾 Come on Gunners, we need to tighten our defense and sharpen the striking force 👏🏽👊

Hurt. Frustrated. Disappointed. But we can’t let our heads drop. Time to analyse. Time to recharge. Time to refocus.

reaction of arsenal fans after they lose when ozil is playing not playing: playing : " he is a liability, he needs to be sold" not playing : why emery didn't play him, he could have done something in this game" in both cases, ozil will always be the scapegoater

I really think that Gazanniga making those great saves in the first 15 minutes impacted the game. If Arsenal had scored the chances they had I believe the game would have been different. but Congrats To Spurs & Pochentino. They did their game. Arsenal needs to work on finishing.

Tottenham Hotspur needs this competition very highly as well. There's important matters to be justified by Mauricio Pochettino. Next meet in the semifinals is with Chelsea. All the very best wishes.

IMO, in order for a team to perform, the team has to feel that the selection is the best team to compete. if the team doesnt feel that selection whether personel or formation is the best team then internally collectively they will not perform. although any team a coach selects are required to do their best but this is an underling issue that surfaces. Emery needs not to change formation because of injuries to players but use the players he has whether they are youth squad player or not. in other words, how he used Xhaka was such a bad decision. IMO Emery ahould keep the wing back formation cause the players were used to that, were getting better each game and gives fringe players a chance to show what they can do. Too much changing has never been a good thing in the long run.
