Arsenal 'consider a January move for Orlando City star Facundo Torres'

Arsenal are considering a move for Facundo Torres, according to a report.

Manager Mikel Arteta, whose side are currently top the Premier League by two points, is looking to add more depth to his squad as they aim to continue a title push this season, and wants to add a right-sided winger to his ranks provide competition for Bukayo Saka.

According to the Standard, the Gunners are set to hold talks with the Uruguayan and his agents after the 22-year-old impressed in the 2022 MLS season for Orlando City.

Torres scored nine goals and clocked 10 assists in his debut year for the club after joining on a four-year deal from Penarol in January for around £7.75million.

It is reportedly currently unclear whether Arsenal will push through with the move after initial talks, but negotiations will begin soon.

While Arsenal added depth in several areas of the pitch over the summer, the club are keen to add more wide players to their ranks, with Reiss Nelson coming on for Saka against Nottingham Forest on Sunday when the England man went of injured.

Nelson scored twice in the game, but it was his first appearance of the season and it is unclear whether he is in Arteta's long-term plans.

Though Torres played and scored against Arsenal in pre-season, it is believed Toni Lima, a club scout appointed in 2021, triggered the North London side's interest after identifying the winger.

Lima specialises in South American talent and is credited with being one of the first to notice Neymar and Philippe Coutinho during their playing days in Brazil.

Arsenal have also been linked with Wolves' Pedro Neto and Shakhtar Donetsk's Mykhaylo Mudryk, but it is believed Torres is top of their list of targets, with it looking ever more likely a winger will arrive in January.
