Arsenal dealt a blow in pursuit of Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca as PSG 'submit opening bid'

Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly submitted an opening bid to Sassuolo for Arsenal target Gianluca Scamacca.

The 23-year-old netted 16 Serie A goals for Sassuolo last season and is believed to be on the Gunners' summer target list.

Mikel Arteta desperately needs reinforcements up front this summer after the departures of Pierre-Emeric Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette and was said to be keeping tabs on Scamacca during his breakthrough season at Sassuolo.

Arsenal saw an offer of around £35million rejected by the Italian club, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

Earlier this month, it was reported that Scamacca rebuffed the offer from the Premier League in the hope of signing for an Italian giant this summer.

And now their pursuit of the striker has been dealt a further blow as PSG entered the race for Scamacca.

The French side have submitted an opening offer of £30m plus bonuses, according to Sky Italia.

However, that sum was also rebuffed by Sassuolo, who reportedly want a fee of £43m for the Italy international.

But Arsenal could continue to face competition for Scamacca as negotiations between the Italian club and PSG are said to be expected to continue.

The Gunners will have to act quickly if they want to secure the services of the towering six-foot-four attacker.

Scamacca has also reportedly attracted interest from Inter Milan although it is believed no formal offer has yet been made this summer.

As it stands, the Italian giants seem more focused on securing deals with reported transfer targets Paulo Dybala and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who each are out of contract in July.

Unsettled Romelu Lukaku has also been linked with a move back to the San Siro although Chelsea are unlikely to let him return on the cheap after spending over £100 million on the Belgian last summer.

Arsenal's No 1 target this summer is believed to be Manchester City star Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian forward has entered the final year of his contract at the Etihad and is now expected to leave after the £51million arrival of Erling Haaland.

Chelsea, Tottenham and Real Madrid have all been linked with the 25-year-old but it's Arsenal that are reportedly leading the race to land him.
