How the Gunners got individually in the first half of their clash with Manchester City in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium
Aaron Ramsdale: Didn't do anything actively wrong but was a bit too keen to go long at times when Arsenal had a bit more time on the ball. Looked a bit nervy in possession. 6.
Ben White: One crucial intervention to stop Julian Alvarez from getting a certain goal. Got forward well on occasion to create Arsenal's best chance of the half. 7.
William Saliba: Sometimes lacked his usual composure when playing out from the back and went long too often. One superb defensive intervention to stop Haaland from scoring a certain goal though. 6.
Gabriel: Some nifty interceptions and kept his concentration well under sustained pressure from City. Again a little to hasty to go forward though. 6.
Jurrien Timber: Probably the first game where his right-footedness at left back told as City offered no real space inside. Defensively still pretty good though. 6.
Thomas Partey: Very harshly booked and at times pretty good on the ball. One error on the edge of the box nearly gifted City an opener though. 6.
Declan Rice: Some decent interceptions but was a little too negative on the ball when Arsenal had the chance to get the ball froward in transition. 6.
Martin Odegaard: Not given much time to show his class on the ball with how much defending Arsenal had to do. Pressed manfully though. 6.
Bukayo Saka: Defensively fell asleep early on to allow City to play out, but recovered to cause lots of problems in behind down the right. Unlucky not to get an assist. 6.
Kai Havertz: Some questions marks over the decision to play him up front but his hold up play was superb and he was defensively excellent. Just lacked the finishing touch with his two big chances. 7.
Gabriel Martinelli: One decent chance where he was closed down well. Caused issues down the left with his direct dribbling as per usual. 6.

on Havertz doing everything but score a goal: Yes I think so. He was superb, the way he pressed and how intelligent he is to try and understand certain spaces and the timing of it, he was great and got in great positions to score. He was unlucky not to score but he was very physical when he needed to be, so I was very pleased with him.

Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurien Timber as well as the entire Arsenal team has been impressive (except for Ramsdale, I hope he hasn't lost his confidence a bit)

The Gunners squad is now playing in a United manner and very compact. It's been an impressive 45 mins and we go onto the 2nd half with keen eyes to what will happen. Kudos to Arteta and the Gunners board and I hope they win

It's clear Arsenal are the better team on the pitch today, judging from the first half. Arsenal go and finish up the work. With all those chances Arsenal are creating, there's bound to be a goal or two in there. It's just a matter of getting the ball past their keeper.
