Arsenal plot record-breaking move for Real Madrid star

Arsenal are going all-in this summer. After years of getting close to greatness, the North London club is determined to make the leap from contenders to champions—and they’re not holding back. With Kepa Arrizabalaga and Martín Zubimendi already on board, sporting director Andrea Berta is continuing to reshape the squad, and Real Madrid’s Brazilian winger Rodrygo Goes has become a top priority.

How much are Real Madrid ready to sell Rodrygo for?

The plan? To pair Rodrygo with Bukayo Saka as the attacking cornerstones of Mikel Arteta’s long-term project. Talks with Rodrygo’s camp actually began before the end of last season, and should he leave Real Madrid, Arsenal are ready to submit a blockbuster offer—one that could top €90 million (about $97 million), potentially making him the club’s most expensive signing ever.

Rodrygo’s Real Madrid future in doubt under Xabi Alonso

But don’t expect fireworks just yet. This is a slow-burn operation by design. Rodrygo has made it clear he doesn’t want to discuss his future until after the 2025 Club World Cup, choosing to stay focused on the competition for now—even if his role has been limited. That tournament wraps up in August, and only then will Arsenal make their move.

The timeline is already in place: once the Club World Cup is over, Rodrygo will have a key conversation with Madrid head coach Xabi Alonso to clarify where he stands in the team’s pecking order. If he’s not part of the long-term vision, he won’t resist a move—so long as he gets to choose his next destination.

Rodrygo would be the crown jewel in a revamped Arsenal squad that’s being carefully assembled. Alongside the Brazilian, the Gunners are finalizing a deal for Valencia center-back Cristhian Mosquera, eyeing a striker—RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško is the frontrunner over Sporting CP’s Viktor Gyökeres—and targeting Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze to fill a flexible attacking midfield role.

But make no mistake: Rodrygo is the headliner. Arsenal want him to be the statement signing of the summer.

How The Gunners will make room for Real Madrid superstar

Before the club can fully greenlight their summer spree, though, some housecleaning is required. Arsenal are preparing for a wave of departures. Jorginho and Thomas Partey are already on the way out, and more exits are expected in the coming weeks. Jakub Kiwior, Oleksandr Zinchenko, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Fábio Vieira, and Reiss Nelson are all available—ideally for permanent transfers, though loans are on the table if necessary.

Then there are two wild cards: Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard. Martinelli is expected to stay at least one more season—unless a massive offer comes in from Saudi Arabia. With just a year left on his deal next summer, Arsenal will have to decide whether to extend his contract or cash in. Trossard, on the other hand, is already up for sale, but only if the right offer arrives.

Arsenal believe their time is now. And if everything falls into place, Rodrygo could be the final piece of the puzzle.
