Arsenal to push Man City the distance for WSL title, says Little

Arsenal captain Kim Little believes a good run of results from her team will put the pressure on Manchester City in the race for the Women's Super League title.

The Gunners moved to within 10 points of leaders City following their 1-0 win at Emirates Stadium on Sunday, with Olivia Smith scoring the only goal in the 17th minute.

Andree Jeglertz's side had not tasted defeat since the opening day of the 2025-26 campaign against Chelsea, and had won each of their last 13 matches in the top flight.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are now unbeaten in their last nine WSL games (W6 D3) and are in with a shout of the title, at least according to the Opta supercomputer.

In its season simulations, Arsenal are assigned a 3.2% chance of lifting taking the crown, which despite being fourth, is the second-highest probability behind City's 94.8%.

And while Little is aware of the task that still remains for Arsenal, she believes her team can put together a late charge for a first WSL title since 2018-19.

She told BBC Sport: "Ultimately, in the league, City have put themselves in a good position and our job is to push as much as we can."

Arsenal were not in WSL action last week as they participated in the inaugural Champions Cup, which saw them defeat Corinthians to add more silverware to the cabinet.

Little paid tribute to the fans, who had helped spur the players on as they participated in two huge games at the Emirates Stadium, with both resulting in massive wins.

"It's been a big week in terms of fixtures," Little added. "We've put in great performances, all of the players have done really well.

"We've risen to the occasion and our fans have been a huge part of that.

"To play to nearly 40,000 again today, it's a special atmosphere and it adds a percentage to our performance. We're thankful to them."

City boss Jeglertz, meanwhile, is confident his side will bounce back from their second defeat of the season, with Leicester City up next on February 15.

"I'm not worried at all, there's no doubt that we'll bounce back," Jeglertz declared.

"The players gave everything at the end, but we know the rest of the league will be tough, so we need to handle that in a good way, then we’ll be fine."
