Arsenal suffered a shock 1-0 defeat to Bate Borisov on Thursday night while Chelsea redeemed some English pride with a victory over Malmo.
Alexandre Lacazette was sent off for the Gunners in their Europa League last-32 first leg in Belarus.
If you had Valentines Day plans, Sportsmail have you covered on what you might have missed from the European action.
No time for politics!
It is a pretty busy time in the world of English politics as the country prepares to leave the European Union.
But when it comes to a person and their football team nothing gets in the way, as shown by the Speaker of the House of Commons, John Bercow.
Bercow is a beloved Gunners fan and he told the Commons that he wanted to wrap up the conversation so he can watch the game against Bate Borisov.
Fighters on and off the pitch
You see supporters from all over the globe traveling to games but in Arsenal's Europa League match there was something you do not see very often.
Local soldiers were in attendance to watch the match in Belarus at the Borisov Arena.
The home side were certainly fighters on Thursday night as they claimed a victory over the Gunners.
No sign of Ozil
It would have been hard to fathom in 2014 when Mesut Ozil signed for the Gunners that he would be regularly dropped over four-and-a-half years later.
The £42.5million man was left out of the Arsenal squad in their shock defeat to Bate Borisov on Thursday.
The north London side have played 313 games since he joined the club and this was the 100th time he has missed a match.
Unsavoury scenes at the Swedbank Stadion
The atmosphere was electric at the Swedbank Stadion between Chelsea and Malmo on Thursday night.
But the Europa League clash saw unsavoury scenes as drinks were reportedly being thrown between both sets of supporters.
This was during a first half that saw Chelsea take the lead through midfielder Ross Barkley.
Unwanted record
Arsenal suffered a shock defeat to Bate Borisov on Thursday night and this is not a good omen for them.
The Gunners have been eliminated from each of their last six two-legged ties in European competitions when they have lost the first leg.
The last tie they managed to reverse was against Porto in the Champions League in the 2009-10 season.

We are not talking about Ozil here he should go to hell if he like we are saying that the coach should know how to motivate his players put the hunger spirit for goals in them play his best players to get us good results
I think you are Emery supporter. He is a poor coach who has no game plan or tactical football knowledge. He is like a no-head chicken wandering in the yard looking for any food available. Besides, he is also a stubborn person which has influence his mindset and judgement.

lThe will power of the board especially the majority share holder is very very weak he values money more than the happiness of the fans. l believed that the huge profit he normally expected yearly without real investment on the players will lead him to the heal fire. The sinners have no room in the house of God, except he repent . Arsenal had reduced our happiness is only God will rescues us from the hands of shareholders. I pray Amen.

Real football heads like myself are not surprised by this result. For the last few months I've been receiving abuse from my fellow Arsenal just because I'll not accept failure at this club. Truth of the matter is Emery was never goo d enough for us and I pray we are not stupid enough to back him in the transfer window or maybe hopefully he's sacked by then. Also where are all the Arsenal fans that were acting like we signed Iniesta when we signed Suarez ? When people like myself speak about football you stand up and listen.
When are you taking over at Arsenal?

The sub heading says "No sign of Ozil". Couldn't that sub heading also apply to 95 percent of games he has ever played for Arsenal?

We have creative players that are being ignored by Emery. The solution is to get rid of Emery and get Arsenal firing again on all cylinders.
