Mikel Arteta says Arsenal are ready to dip into the January transfer market if the opportunity arises, given his side's worsening injury problems.
Cristhian Mosquera was forced off in the 2-0 win over Brentford in midweek, which put the Gunners five points clear at the top of the Premier League, with the Spaniard joining defenders William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes on the treatment table.
Declan Rice also hobbled off and is another doubt for the trip to Aston Villa.
Arsenal spent big in the summer on the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Martin Zubimendi, Noni Madueke and Eberechi Eze, but Arteta is ready for further business in January.
"We always have to be prepared," said Arteta.
"The moment that we have an option to touch the squad, to improve the squad or to protect the squad, depending on what happens, I think we need to be open for it.
"From what is going to happen from here until the window is closed as well, is football.
“So, we don't know but we're certainly going to be on alert and we know where the risk can come in terms of the squad and be ready just in case we have to do something."
Gyokeres, Martin Odegaard and Madueke have already suffered injuries during the campaign, but the trio have now returned to action, as Arsenal continue their quest for a first Premier League title since 2004.
Arsenal face Villa in the early kick-off on Saturday, having played against Brentford less than three days earlier, and Arteta would like the schedule to be relaxed in order to help his players recover properly.
He said: "The only thing I can say is that whenever it's possible to help and give the players an extra day or hours to fulfil the maximum potential, let's do it.
"That's it. We are ready for the game, that's for sure."

Arsenal are never given any help from the F.A. regarding fixtures. 60 hours after Brentford we have a 12:30 pm game. This game could have been played Sunday. Arsenal play Wednesday in the champions league. Villa Thursday in the europa league.. At least they could have given us an evening K.O.. We are always treated like this, referees and V.A.R. You name it. In Spain and other European countries they help teams. T.V. money runs fixtures in the premier league.
Stop complaining. It has nothing to do with Arsenal Mr. man. EPL has been like this for years every December. Was it only Arsenal that played on Wednesday and will play on Saturday. Don't raise complaints for any team. It's normale for the festive period.

Why can’t Arsenal v Villa be played on Sunday. Arsenal play Wednesday and Villa Thursday in europe. At least they could have been given a Saturday evening/night time K.O. T.V. dictates fixtures for K.O. for finance.rewards irrelevant of how long between games. I thought you had to have 72 hours between games. Players welfare doesn’t count in E.P.L. This means viewers will not see the quality of games due to the knackered players. It’s a joke!!!!

That is why diehard Chelsea fans have a strong love/hate relationship with Enzo Maresca! He loves to rotate his squad to preserve their fitness for the whole season. But in doing so,he sometimes looses to the likes of Leeds, Sunderland, Brighton e.t.c. On the other hand,Arteta plays his first eleven throughout until injury intervenes.I bet Chelsea will overtake Arsenal in early January.COYB, KTBFFH 👍👍👍👍

With more games to play and few days to recover before the next match, all the teams need good squad depths to carry on. It's not going to be easy, but it can be done. Wishing the Gunners success in their pursuit of silverware this season
