Daniel Wass' early own goal and a late Lucas Vazquez strike consigned Valencia to a 2-0 LaLiga loss at Real Madrid.
Match Events
Real Madrid battled to a 2-0 home win against Valencia in LaLiga thanks to an early own goal scored by Daniel Wass and a late Lucas Vazquez strike.
Isco was back in the squad after being left out entirely for the Champions League win at Roma in midweek, but Santiago Solari again opted not to name the Spain playmaker in the XI.
Marcos Llorente thrived in midfield in Isco's absence but Madrid needed an eighth-minute intervention from Wass to take the lead on Saturday.
Dani Carvajal crossed from close to the byline on the right wing and Wass sent an attempted clearing header flying past goalkeeper Neto, while Thibaut Courtois was in fine form at the other end.
Vazquez – who also scored in the 2-0 win over Roma – slotted in the decisive second for Madrid with seven minutes to go, the goal surviving a lengthy VAR review, to claim all three points.
8' OWN GOAL! Real Madrid 1-0 Valencia (Wass)
1-0 TO REAL MADRID! Wass sticks it into his own net as he tries to head Carvajal's cross clear.
29' CHANCE! Bale's close-range shot saved
Superb save! Bale controls the ball on the corner of the six-yard box after a cross and jinks to get space on his left. He smashes a shot at goal and Neto gets a strong hand to it. Benzema complains to the referee that his shirt was pulled while the cross was in the air.
63' Courtois saves Madrid from conceding
Offside! Parejo looks to have found Mina in behind the defence again. The striker controls and tries to take the ball past Courtois. The flag eventually goes up, but it is another scare for the Real Madrid defence.
72' MISS! Asensio fails to convert open chance
BLOCKED! Llorente is clear down Real Madrid's right and passes across the box to Asensio. Valencia's defence is all over the place, but Asensio's shot is a poor one. Piccini blocks the ball on the line and Valencia are still in the game.
78' WHAT A SAVE! Courtois denies Batshuayi
Batshuayi gets in behind the Real Madrid defence and has time to pick a place to finish. He goes for a side-footed effort and Courtois pulls off a close range save. The flag goes up for offside shortly after so it would not have counted anyway.
83' GOAL! Real Madrid 2-0 Valencia (Vazquez)
VAZQUEZ MAKES IT 2-0 TO REAL MADRID! Vazquez passes the ball into the net with his left foot from close range after an electric Real Madrid counter-attack.

For the very first time I did see Courtois not only stop one bt rada two one-on-one situations. That is what we need to see in our goal keepers. Real defense will always be stable that's why we need a keeper we can trust even if all stands clear against us. You prove me wrong today so keep up the good work. As for Vasquez I think he has proven beyond doubt that he deserves to be be amongst the first 11players of this Real Madrid team.

Giroud scored a brace. Moratta scored. Lukaku scored. Rashford provided two assists in a single match. THEN, Real Madrid won!!! Oh God, if you are planning to destroy the world, tell me on time oh!!!

Real Madrid have betrayed their loyal friend Manchester United today. It's clear they don't even respect their friends

Some Madrid's stats 😇: 1. Gareth Bale has failed to score in his last 10 LaLiga appearances (793 minutes without a goal), the worst run in his LaLiga career 2. Marcos Llorente completed 48 of his 49 passes in the first half against Valencia, more than any other player in the game.

Crticize him all you want but Karim Benzema is one of the best players of this generation. His quickness, precise passing, ability to wiggle his way out of so many players makes him standout from others. He's a different kind of Striker.

This first half by RM in this game was by far the best I have seen RM perform this season, pressing, recovery, precision and control of the ball was absolutely on point. Valencia did have their chances but failed to score. Vasquez, Cavajal were perfect on the right flank, excellent work rate from the both of them. Regulion did very good on the left in Marcelo’s absence closing players down, he didn’t allow too many crosses into the box from the opposition like Marcelo often does( my preferred candidate at left back for now ) as we anticipate nachos return. Ceballos, Lorrente, proving to be instrumental game by game. Overall good performance by RM.

I don't understand why Valencia don't play Batshuayi and Kondogbia more. They're good players being wasted on the bench. If starting, they may have given the opposition some trouble....

analyzing ceballos movements in attack and defence: during attack: he holds up the ball too much which allows the opponents to come back and avoid more goals during defence : he stays forward which allows parejo to create his own space and pass the ball to soler who is always running behind real Madrid defence . finally, in my opinion, he is not suitable to play in a big team like real Madrid , he will cause them problems in the future. who agrees with me? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
