Manchester United's teenagers did much to impress away to Astana but Di'Shon Bernard's own goal meant they slipped to a 2-1 loss.
Match Reports
Astana came from behind to beat Manchester United 2-1 in Nur-Sultan as a dream outing for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's youngsters turned sour.
With qualification from Europa League Group L already secured, Solskjaer took the opportunity to field an entirely changed XI from the 3-3 draw at Sheffield United featuring seven teenagers.
Jesse Lingard took the captain's armband and gave United an early lead but the contest turned against the Premier League club after a horror miss from Tahith Chong in the 54th minute.
Left-back Dmitriy Shomko levelled less than a minute later and Di'Shon Bernard, one of three full debutants, put decisively through his own goal in the 62nd minute – sealing a famous win for the already-eliminated Kazakh champions.
Group standings
5' Eric denies Greenwood's effort
It's a good throughball to Greenwood on the left side of the box from Lingard and he gets past his defender before firing his shot on target, but it's a comfortable save for Eric to make as he palms it away.
10' GOAL! Astana 0-1 Man Utd (Lingard)
Lingard takes quite a heavy first touch but he isn't closed down by Astana's defenders and he drills his low show through the crowd of players into the box and into the bottom corner with the help of a slight deflection.
19' Lingard's shot flies into the sky
Lingard has another shot on goal, this time looking for the same corner as his goal. Eric is beaten, but the captain just drags his shot wide of the woodwork.
48' Bernard almost scores an own goal
Astana have been on the front foot since the start of the second half and Beysebekov squares a great cross into the six-yard box. Bernard is in the middle to meet it but slices at his clearance and gets lucky as it sails over the crossbar.
54' Unbelievable! What a miss from Chong!
Shaw does brilliantly to get past Rukavina and squares the ball across the six-yard box just as the keeper comes out to him. Lingard misses it but Chong is unmarked at the far post. He takes it first time, but fires his shot over the top of the empty net.
55' GOAL! Astana 1-1 Man Utd (Shomko)
Astana go straight down the other end and Murtazayev slots the ball through to Shomko on the left of the box. Bernard can't close him down quickly enough and he fires it into the far bottom corner to level the score.
62' OWN GOAL! Astana 2-1 Man Utd (Bernard)
Rukavina switched out to the right to get onto the ball and he drills his cross into the box. Bernard gets across to try and block it, but it takes a huge deflection off the defender to sail over Grant and into the back of the net.
73' CLOSE! Sigurjonsson's shot wide out
It's a wonderful counter-attack from Astana that starts with a long ball across the field from Shomko to Beysebekov. He finds Khizhnichenko who then touches it onto Sigurjonsson, but his drilled effort is just wide of the post.
75' Eric stops Gomes's free-kick
United have a free-kick just outside the box and Gomes is stepping up to take it. He curls his effort over the wall and it's heading into the top corner, but Eric gets across his line to push it away with his hand.

Everything is a learning curve and our kids will learn more from this match... Definitely they will make mistakes but they will learn soon and come back stronger...Today is the first time they have had a taste of europe match and they did well for me...Yes some players missed their chances but that's how they learn...I saw many tackles on Our players in second half made which shows Astana planned it in half time to make fouls on the players to make them fear and they helped them to win this game..But still I am happy with the fight kids gave till the end and Angel gomes,Garner and Levitt did well in my opinion...Proud of you my boys bo matter what..GGMU

You know what, honestly Ole's tactics are horrible if you want to give young players a chance to prove themselves then play them WITH MORE EXPERIENCED PLAYERS TO LEARN FROM (such as: Mata etc) because they need some help and with a very experienced Astana team its very clear who would win im just surprised its not by a bigger margin. The defense lacked heavily and so did the attack Chong was dreadful and Angel Gomes was clearly trying to give good passes but he can't due to the experienced Astana backline so I think Ole is just lucky that he didn't lose 5-1 but it's good to see Lingard finally get on the scoresheet!
