Algerian defender Youcef Atal has left Nice for Turkey after receiving a suspended sentence for inciting religious hatred over the conflict in Gaza.
Atal shared an anti-Semitic Instagram video of Palestinian preacher Mahmoud al-Hasanat purportedly calling on God to 'send Jewish people a dark day' in the wake of the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7.
A court in Nice handed the 27-year-old an eight-month suspended sentence last month and fined him £38,000.
Nice suspended Atal and he received a seven-match ban from a French league disciplinary committee despite issuing an apology for his post.
The Ligue 1 club announced on Friday that Atal has joined Turkish club Adana Demirspor, having not played for them since he was suspended.
'Six months from the end of his contract, Youcef Atal leaves OGC Nice for Turkey after five-and-a-half seasons in red and black, 115 matches splayed and 12 goals scored,' a statement read.
'The Algerian international joins the Super Lig, where he will play with Adana Demirspor (currently in 9th place).
'Arriving in Nice in 2018, the full-back excited the public during his first season. Unfortunately, injuries punctuated the years since but when on the field, he could affect games such as against Strasbourg at the beginning of September.
'The club wishes him good luck for the rest of his career.'
Atal played in three matches for Algeria at the recent Africa Cup of Nations where, in a disappointing campaign, they finished bottom of their group and went home early.
In court, Atal said he did not watch the full 35-second video of Al-Hasanat before sharing it and had wanted to send a 'message of peace'. But his argument did not convince prosecutors.
'Sharing a video means being party to its message and lending it visibility,' said prosecutor Meggi Choutia. 'There is no talk of peace at any moment in these 35 seconds.'
In his apology, Atal said: 'I am aware that my post shocked many people, which wasn't my intention, and I apologise.
'I want to clarify my point of view without any ambiguity: I strongly denounce all forms of violence, wherever in the world, and I support all victims.
'I would never support a message of hate. Peace is an ideal in which I strongly believe.'
