Michael Olise starred in the absence of Harry Kane as Bayern Munich thrashed Atalanta in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie.
Match Report
England captain Kane was only fit enough for a place on the bench after returning from a calf injury.
But Bayern did not need to call upon their striker as they stormed to a crushing success.
Olise shone, playing a part in their three opening goals as the Bundesliga champions took a commanding lead by the 25th minute.
The Frenchman's quick corner found an unmarked Serge Gnabry to set up Josip Stanisic to finish from close range for the 12th-minute opener.
Olise added the second 10 minutes later with a curling effort, before he sent Gnabry through to clip over the advancing Marco Carnesecchi in the Atalanta goal.
Nicolas Jackson and Jamal Musiala were also on target, their efforts sandwiched by a second for Olise, as Bayern had six by the 67th minute, before a late Mario Pasalic reply for the hosts in Bergamo.
Victory extended their unbeaten run away from home to nine games and put them in a commanding position for the return at Allianz Arena on 18 March.
In a first European meeting between the two sides, Bayern were quick off the mark and Olise was denied three times by Carnesecchi inside the opening 10 minutes.
But Stanisic converted after the hosts were caught napping at the set-piece.
Olise then ended his eight-game drought in trademark fashion, curling the ball into the far corner from the edge of the area after a surging run from central defender Dayot Upamecano.
Atalanta, the 2024 Europa League winners, were left with a mountain to climb three minutes later when the excellent Olise plucked the ball out of the sky and slid it through for Gnabry to finish.
Gnabry and Jackson - deputising up front for Kane for the second game in a row - came close to adding a fourth before half-time.
But in the 52nd minute, however, the on-loan Chelsea forward was able to add a third Champions League goal to his tally this term as he fired a shot into the bottom corner after a sweeping counter-attack and backheel assist from Luis Diaz.
Former Reading and Crystal Palace forward Olise curled home a second spectacular effort past Carnesecchi in the 64th minute, before Musiala completed the rout three minutes later as Bayern hit six in the Champions League for the first time since September 2024.
The home supporters - who remained vocal throughout despite the scoreline - were finally given something to cheer about in the third minute of added time when Pasalic tapped in at the back post.
