Qarabag's faultless start in the Champions League was halted as Gorka Guruzeta and Robert Navarro scored excellent goals in a 3-1 comeback victory for Athletic Club.
The Azerbaijani champions made a dream start to their third league-stage match as Leandro Andrade took advantage of a mix-up between centre-backs Aymeric Laporte and Aitor Paredes to slot home after just 48 seconds at San Mames.
But their lead would not last. Having already drawn one good save from Mateusz Kochalski, Guruzeta latched onto Mikel Jauregizar's pinpoint pass to fire home left-footed in the 38th minute.
Guruzeta was unable to turn home on the stretch from the final attack of the first half, but Athletic did inch ahead in the 70th minute, as Navarro curled a fabulous effort beyond Kochalski's dive from near the left corner of the box.
There was still time for Athletic to add a third, too, as Guruzeta brought down a bouncing ball before firing into the bottom-left corner from outside the area in the 88th minute.
While Athletic are up to three points following defeats to Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund, Qarabag have six after opening their campaign with wins over Benfica and Copenhagen.
Galatasaray also have six points on the board after a 3-1 home win over Bodo/Glimt, with Victor Osimhen scoring twice for the Istanbul giants, who beat Liverpool last time out.
Osimhen swept home first-time to give the hosts a third-minute lead, then intercepted Fredrik Bjorkan's terrible pass to score a simple second half an hour later.
Osimhen passed up a couple of glorious chances to get his hat-trick in the second half, but Yunus Akgun's close-range finish did put Galatasaray three to the good on the hour, rendering Andreas Helmersen's header a mere consolation.
Data Debrief: Andrade makes history, but Qarabag cannot hold on
He may have ultimately finished on the losing side, but Qarabag striker Andrade made a piece of European football history on Wednesday.
He became the first player in the history of major UEFA competitions to score in the first minute of three different games, having previously done so versus Hacken in December 2023 and FCSB in January this year, both in the Europa League.
Elsewhere, Osimhen extended his scoring streak in major European competitions to seven straight games (nine goals overall), a new record by a Galatasaray player. He had previously been level with Burak Yilmaz, who scored in six in a row between October 2012 and March 2013.
