The Atlanta United striker has broken the MLS mark for consecutive matches scoring. The world record belongs to FC Barcelona star, Lionel Messi.
The current MLS season has been filled with different record-breaking moments, with Chris Wondolowski surpassing Landon Donovan all-time scoring mark, or Carlos Vela becoming the Mexican top scorer of the league to Zlatan getting the most shots on goal record.
Atlanta United striker, Josef Martinez is one name that is also making history in the US league, he set the most goals in a single season during the last campaign, and now he wants to take a world record set by no other than Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi.
The Venezuelan striker has scored in 12 consecutive MLS games, surpassing his previous record, and now is closely approaching the world records heights, with Martinez sharing the table with Robert Lewandowski in third place and over the likes of Jamie Vardy or Gabriel Bautista.
Martinez is behind Norwegian striker, Tor Henning Hamre who scored in 15 consecutive games in 2003 and FC Barcelona jewel, Lionel Messi who scored in 21 straight matches in the 2013-14 season. Josef still needs a bit of work, but with his hot streak, he's on pace to perhaps take on Messi's world mark.
