Nahuel Molina came to the fore with a stunning long-range effort as Atletico Madrid sealed a 1-0 LaLiga victory over 10-man Getafe at the Estadio Metropolitano.
Match Report
Molina broke the deadlock after eight minutes, pouncing on Kiko Femenia's loose touch before unleashing a swerving effort from over 25 yards that flew into the top-right corner, leaving David Soria rooted to the spot.
Diego Simeone's side dominated proceedings and nearly doubled their lead soon after, with Alexander Sorloth's close-range header from Alex Baena's cross crashing against the woodwork.
Getafe saw chances fall few and far between across the first half and were dealt another setback 10 minutes after the break when Abdel Abqar saw his yellow card upgraded to red following a VAR review for violent conduct against Sorloth.
Atletico continued to press with the numerical advantage as Baena struck the side netting before Marc Pubill saw a low shot parried by Soria.
Julian Alvarez thought he had sealed the result late on after combining with Ademola Lookman to fire goalward from close range, but the ball was cleared off the line at the last moment.
Atletico, though, were not made to pay as they won a fourth straight league match.
Data Debrief: This city is ours
Atletico are now unbeaten in their last 12 home LaLiga derbies against teams from the Community of Madrid (W8 D4), winning the last six in a row for the first time in club history.
Saturday's result also continued Atletico's strong record against Getafe, with Los Colchoneros having now lost just one of their last 27 LaLiga meetings (W22 D4 L1).
It was a close contest on expected goals, however, with Atletico registering 1.49 xG to Getafe's 1.21, with Molina's stunner the difference.
Atletico's Juan Musso, meanwhile, became the first goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet in each of his first four LaLiga matches in the 21st century.
