Gil Martin didn't miss the opportunity to send a message to the president of Real Madrid.

The relationship between Atlético and Real Madrid is not going through its best moment. Florentino Pérez's stubbornness in creating the European Super League has caused a rift between the two most representative clubs of the Spanish capital. Miguel Ángel Gil Marín took the opportunity to prove it again at the ECA (European Club Association - its acronym in English) assembly held this Wednesday in Rome.

The CEO of Atlético de Madrid and the only representative of a Spanish club on the executive committee of the EFC - European Football Clubs - did not hesitate to strongly criticize Florentino and Real Madrid, in addition to praising Barcelona's president, Joan Laporta, for his presence at the aforementioned summit.

Gil Marín believes that the project promoted by Real Madrid and with Florentino Pérez as its public face "is dead" and that this is evident throughout Europe except in Chamartín. "The reality is that it is only talked about in Spain, and without a doubt it is due to the relevance that Real Madrid and its president, as proponents of the idea, have. In Europe, it has long been considered a dead project. Proof of this is that the current formats, distribution systems, and the commercialization of television rights and sponsorships for the next cycle 2027-31 have been agreed upon between clubs and UEFA and are completely opposed to those proposed by the Super League model," said the red-and-white official.

The EFC invited Joan Laporta to the meeting in the Italian capital, something that sparked a great deal of rumors regarding a possible abandonment of the Super League by Barcelona. Gil Marín hopes that this is the case and that his namesake, the only Barcelona supporter who still backs Florentino, leaves Real Madrid alone in the project conceived by the construction entrepreneur.

"Barça has been and must become once again an important actor in the decision-making bodies regarding our sector and its future. The fact that Joan Laporta decided to accept our invitation and accompanied us in Rome is a joy and good news for those of us who defend that European football must be a united family. We must understand the differences among us and propose improvements, but always from within. The truth is that I have seen Joan excited and committed to returning," he said.
