Austria 5-1 Ghana: Rangnick's men continue WC preparations with thumping win

Austria continued their World Cup preparations with a thumping 5-1 friendly victory over Ghana in Vienna, with Carney Chukwuemeka scoring on his senior international debut. 

Chukwuemeka, who was also eligible to represent England, France or Nigeria, scored Austria's fourth goal after coming on as a 61st-minute substitute, exchanging passes with Marcel Sabitzer before finishing high into the roof of the net.

That was Sabitzer's third goal involvement of the match, as he had opened the scoring from the penalty spot before assisting Michael Gregoritsch to make it 2-0 with a simple square pass, with those actions coming either side of half-time.

Stefan Posch headed in the hosts' third, and after Jordan Ayew pulled one back for Ghana, Chukwuemeka's left-footed strike and a 25-yard curler from Nicolas Seiwald rounded off the scoring.

Elsewhere in Friday's international friendlies, there was a headline victory for Egypt, who crushed Saudi Arabia 4-0 in the absence of the injured Mohamed Salah.

Islam Issa, Trezeguet, Zizo and Omar Marmoush were on target for the Pharaohs, who are due to meet Belgium, New Zealand and Iran in Group G at the World Cup.

Iran were beaten 2-1 by Nigeria in Turkiye, while South Africa were held to a 1-1 draw by Panama, one of England's opponents at the forthcoming tournament.

It was only earlier this month that Chukwuemeka announced his intention to represent Austria, after being capped by England up to under-20 level.

And the Borussia Dortmund man had a good first outing, recording the joint-most touches in the box of any Austria player (four) despite coming off the bench, while completing 10 of 11 passes and scoring with his only shot, which had an expected goals (xG) value of 0.4.
