From the comments, I noticed a lot of readers have not realized that Liverpool simply triggered a clause in the player's contract. Although this is not acceptable in the PL, players can mutually agree to such a low sale value when signing contracts to avoid being stuck to the long term when they desire to leave for bigger clubs.
