Ryan Mason has been appointed as interim head coach until the end of the season after Tottenham took the decision to sack Cristian Stellini following the 6-1 defeat against Newcastle
A statement from Tottenham Hotspur read: "Following the appointment of Ryan Mason as Acting Head Coach, we can now confirm Ryan's coaching staff. Ryan will be joined by our former Academy player and coach Matt Wells (Acting Assistant Head Coach) and current Academy coach Nigel Gibbs (Acting First Team Coach), alongside Perry Suckling (First Team Goalkeeping Coach) and Gianni Vio (Set Pieces Coach), who continue their existing roles."
Spurs chariman Daniel Levy confirmed the club's decision to sack Stellini on Monday after the Italian won just once in his four games in charge. A statement from Levy on the club's official website read: "Dear All, Sunday’s performance against Newcastle was wholly unacceptable.
"It was devastating to see. We can look at many reasons why it happened and whilst myself, the board, the coaches and players must all take collective responsibility, ultimately the responsibility is mine.
"Cristian will leave his current role along with his coaching staff. Cristian stepped in at a difficult point in our season and I want to thank him for the professional manner in which he and his coaching staff have conducted themselves during such a challenging time. We wish him and his staff well.
"Ryan Mason will take over head coach duties with immediate effect. Ryan knows the club and the players well. We shall update further on his coaching staff in due course.
"I met with the Player Committee today - the squad is determined to pull together to ensure the strongest possible finish to the season. We are all clear we need to deliver performances which earn your amazing support. COYS, Daniel."
The Tottenham players decided collectively to cover the ticket costs of the fans who travelled to watch their embarrassing collapse at Newcastle. Now the players have made the gesture to those 3,000 supporters who travelled up and down the country to be served up such a display.
This is a developing news story that will be updated with relevant information as we get it. More to follow...
