Bale would take up a non-EU spot in 2021 due to Brexit

Brexit will have an impact right across European football and it will hit Real Madrid too.

Within the next two years, Gareth Bale could lose his EU status within the squad and will therefore become a non-EU player.

These non-EU slots are limited at Spanish clubs and Los Blancos already have four players in that quota.

Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo Goes, Eder Militao and Reinier Jesus are the current players to fill up this space.

Bale will lose his EU status if the UK and the EU can't reach an agreement over citizenship rights before the end of 2020.

Real Madrid are aware of this possibility, but it's not just them who will feel the effects in Spain.

The same applies to Kieran Trippier at Atletico Madrid and Oliver Burke at Alaves.

What clubs and players alike are contemplating is that players already playing in Spain when the transition period ends on January 1 2021 can conserve their rights to live, work and study in Spain.

To do this, they have to be registered as foreign residents and the Spanish government has set a deadline for that for December 31, 2020.

It remains to be seen whether the UK can strike up a deal like the Conotou agreement, which sees people from certain countries in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific recognised as having the same working rights as EU members.

There effects of Brexit will be much more devastating on the Premier League and will have an impact on around 100 players.
