Barca may join the 2029 Club World Cup, ranking third in qualification standings

According toMundo Deportivo, there are still three years until the second edition of the revamped Club World Cup, and every Champions League match will count toward the qualification assessment for the 2029 tournament.

At present, Barcelona are highly likely to participate in this edition of the Club World Cup.

The report states that Barcelona previously paid a heavy price for their poor Champions League performances, failing to reach the Round of 16 in both the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons, which allowed Atlético Madrid to benefit and become the second La Liga team—after Real Madrid—to qualify.

Real Madrid secured direct qualification by winning the 2022 Champions League and then claimed the title again in 2024.

However, the situation has now changed significantly. Barcelona currently hold a favorable position and are on track to become one of the two Spanish representatives at this FIFA tournament, unless FIFA alters the qualification rules or expands the number of slots per country.

Qualification for the 2029 Club World Cup will be determined by aggregate results from the Champions League across four seasons, from 2024/25 to 2027/28. Barcelona currently sit third in the standings with 63 points, trailing only Arsenal (71) and Inter Milan (66), and have already built a substantial lead over their La Liga rivals—18 points ahead of Real Madrid and 20 points ahead of Atlético Madrid.

Reaching the Champions League semifinals last season and having already advanced to the Round of 16 this season have firmly established Barcelona’s advantage in achieving this four-year objective.
