UEFA will be required to pay compensation to Barcelona following a Euro 2024 injury to Pedri.

Ahead of Spain’s Euro 2024 semi final with France on July 9, Pedri has confirmed he will remain with the squad, but will play no further part in the tournament.

He was forced off in the opening stages of Spain’s 2-1 quarter final win over hosts Germany with a knee sprain now confirmed.

Toni Kroos has since apologised for the tackle which injured Pedri and the Barcelona star is focusing on his recovery.

He is estimated to be out for around 4-6 weeks and could miss the start of the 2024/25 season at Barcelona.

However, there is some positive news for his club, with UEFA mandated to pay to cover his absence.

If a player is sidelined for over 28 days of action, UEFA are required to step in, with a maximum payment of €7.5m for long term injuries.

The final figure is based on the amount of days missed, in Pedri’s case from August 2, at €20,500 per day, which could end up at around €300,000.
