Barcelona open to Pedri sale this summer – report

Barcelona star Pedri has always been singled out as the most talented of their young midfielders coming through, especially after a dominant Euro 2020 with Spain. Yet three years of repeated injuries have changed their stance, and they are reportedly open to his sale now.

While it has been pointed out that very few players in the Barcelona squad are not available this summer depending on the offers that come in for them, Pedri has rarely been mentioned as a potential sale. RadioMarca are now reporting that they would in fact weigh up an offer for the 21-year-old.

Their information is that the coaching staff feel that his development is not progressing as hoped, and the report claims that his lifestyle off the pitch is not optimal for his football career – this has been vehemently denied by his brother on social media, whom he lives with. They also say the club is concerned about his situation on the whole – contract talks with the Canary Islander are on hold, although that has been put down to their financial issues.

Several factors will no doubt play a role in his future, but none more so than his fitness. Barcelona as a club seem unable to get him fit, and has been shown in other cases, their record of persistent injuries is not as good as at other clubs. Equally, the consistent fitness issues make it hard for him to make much progress, but also will impact the size of offer they can attract for Pedri. Next season could well be a decisive one for Pedri in terms of what direction his career goes in, and whether he can remain fit or not.
