Barcelona star will join Atletico Madrid this summer

Atletico Madrid are set to lose multiple defenders in the summer. Mario Hermoso and Stefan Savic are certain to leave, while there is also doubt over the futures of Caglar Soyuncu and Reinildo Mandava. Despite this, signings are planned, and one is very close to the arrival door, that being Marcos Alonso.

Alonso will leave Barcelona at the end of the season as a free agent, with the decision to not offer a new contract having already been made. Atleti have moved quickly to snap him up, and barring any last minute hitches, he will be Diego Simeone’s first signing of the transfer window, as reported by Ruben Uria.

The likelihood is that Alonso will arrive as an option for the left-sided centre-back position in Simeone’s 5-3-2 system, although he’s unlikely to be a replacement for Mario Hermoso, given that Atletico Madrid will surely look to add a better signing – the likes of Robin Le Normand and Cristhian Mosquera have been linked.
