Barcelona stars 'angry with club's medical team' over injuries

Barcelona stars are reportedly unhappy with the club's medical team over injuries as the LaLiga giants go head-to-head with rivals Real Madrid for the domestic crown.

Midfielder Frenkie De Jong has become the latest player to pick up a knock, injuring the calf muscle in his right leg.

He is angry with the medical department at the Nou Camp over the diagnosis of his injury and looks set to become the latest star to opt for private treatment, according to Cat Radio.

The report claims Barcelona duo Samuel Umtiti and Ousmane Dembele chose to treat their injuries in Qatar instead of using the club's own medical department.

And now De Jong is reportedly considering travelling to his homeland Holland after realising the injury setback was worse than originally feared and likely to keep him on the sidelines for the remainder of the LaLiga season.

The 23-year-old missed Friday's 0-0 draw away to Sevilla which dented Barcelona's hopes of winning the Spanish title, with manager Quique Setien saying before the game he was leaving the player out as a precaution.

The club released a medical report on Sunday, saying the player was unable to train although did not say when he would be able to return.

The midfielder has been ruled out of Barcelona's clash against Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday night and when asked if De Jong would miss the remaining eight fixtures, Setien said: 'We hope that won't be the case. He has a small injury in the area of his calf and we'll see how he progresses. But I'm sure he'll be able to play a few games.

'He's a complete player because he gives us a lot of things when we have the ball, but he's also physical and covers a lot of space. He's young; he has dynamism, enthusiasm and quality. He's learning many things we've been trying to improve.

'It's true that he's an important loss and he could help us a lot. We're a little upset that he's not there, but these are things you have to adapt to. I still have confidence in the people who are going to play in his position.'
