Liverpool transfer target Gavi has rejected a third contract offer from Barcelona, according to reports.

Gavi, 17, has been high on Jurgen Klopp's radar since his rise to stardom in Catalonia and has just 18 months left on his current contract.

It was previously reported by El Nacional, the Reds were prepared to pay him £80,000-a-week in order to secure his signature and offer him an £8million signing on fee.

Sport and Marca both reveal he has rejected a third contract offer to stay put, with the club now hopeful Xavi's 'project' and 'vision' will be enough to keep hold of Gavi.

Marca also suggests there will be no significant rise in contract offers, due to the fact Barca lack the room in their budget to offer more money.

Gavi joined Barcelona's famous La Masia youth academy in 2015 aged just 11, before penning his first pro deal in September 2020.

The talented teenager then went on to star for Barcelona B that year, before he was promoted to first-team duties.

To date, Gavi has clocked up 36 appearances in a Barca shirt, netting twice and contributed to five assists.

He is also a fully-fledged Spain international, winning four caps – and made his bow in the Nations League semi-final win against Italy last year.

In doing so, he become the youngest player to ever represent Spain at senior level.

Liverpool are also keen to find a long-term successor for Thiago Alcantara, and believe Gavi could be the like-for-like replacement.

The Reds remain on the look out for reinforcements as they continue to challenge Premier League leaders Manchester City for years to come.

Klopp side sit just one point behind the Sky Blues and take on Pep Guardiola's side on April 10 at the Etihad.
