Sergi Barjuan is set to make his debut in the Barcelona dugout on Saturday against Alaves after replacing Ronald Koeman on an interim basis this week.

After losing their two last LaLiga Santander games against Real Madrid and Rayo Vallecano, the Blaugrana will be determined to get back to winning ways at the Camp Nou this weekend.

The vast majority of coaches who have taken over at Barcelona in the 21st century have managed to lead the team to a victory on their debut, but there are also cases of those who were unable to do so.

After parting ways with Luis Enrique back in 2017, Barcelona hired Ernesto Valverde, who saw his team lose on his debut at the Camp Nou in the first leg of the Supercopa de Espana against Real Madrid.

However, Barcelona grabbed all three points in the first games of Quique Setien and Koeman in the dugout, as the Catalan side beat Granada and Villarreal respectively.

The interim coaches who debuted with a defeat

Tono de la Cruz replaced Louis van Gaal back in January 2003 and in his first game as an interim coach he couldn't prevent Barcelona from losing to Luis Aragones' Atletico Madrid 3-0 at the Estadio Vicente Calderon.

Nine years later, Jordi Roura succeeded Tito Vilanova and on his debut in the Barcelona dugout he saw his team lose 3-1 to Real Valladolid.
