Bayern Munich's quest for a first Champions League title in seven years got off to the perfect start with a dominant victory and performance against Red Star Belgrade.

The Bundesliga champions were in control throughout - Kingsley Coman opened the scoring in the 34th minute with a well-directed header, and Phillipe Coutinho had a deft flick into the corner disallowed for a correct offside call.

Bayern were similarly controlling in the second period, and wrapped up three points with Robert Lewandowski's poked finish diminishing all hope of an unlikely and undeserved Red Star equaliser late on. 

Thomas Muller's volley from a well-planned free-kick routine in stoppage time gave the scoreline a more representative flavour of Bayern's authoritative display at the Allianz Arena.

Great effort from Coutinho! Hernandez's cross is half-cleared as far as the Brazilian on the edge of the box, and he hits the spinning ball sweetly towards the top-left corner, but it's just over! That would have been a peach of a strike!

NO GOAL! Coutinho latches onto a cross from the right and diverts the ball into the far corner, but the flag is, correctly, up for offside. The Brazilian isn't having any of it, however, and is thoroughly unimpressed with the decision.

80' GOAL! Bayern 2-0 Red Star Belgrade (Lewandowski)

GOAL!! Lewandowski makes it 2-0 to Bayern!! It's a mix-up at the back as the striker tries to feed Gnabry but it is cut out and rolls across the six-yard box. Gobeljic takes a very poor touch that allows the Pole to steal in and divert the ball into the bottom corner beyond Borjan!

GOAL!! What a cheeky goal to make it 3-0! Thiago lines the free-kick up on the edge of the box in a central area and just dinks one in behind for Muller to latch onto and steer a volley past Borjan!
