Bayern in no rush to decide Neuer's future

Bayern Munich will not be rushing to make a decision on Manuel Neuer's future, so says the club's director of sport Max Eberl.

Neuer, who has recently spent time sidelined by injury, turns 40 on March 27.

The goalkeeper returned to action on Friday in a 4-1 Bundesliga win over Borussia Monchengladbach, but then sustained a minor muscle tear.

Neuer has missed out on Bayern's travelling party to face Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday.

His next appearance in the Champions League will see him match Lionel Messi as the player with the second-most Champions League starts for a single team, on 136. Iker Casillas' 149 for Real Madrid leads the all-time record books.

With Neuer out of contract at the end of the season, however, questions remain over his Bayern future. Eberl, though, is in no rush.

"We've always said he should wait until he turns 40 at the end of March," Eberl said.

"And then we'll sit down and talk things through calmly. Then he has to tell us how he feels, and we have to decide for ourselves how to proceed.

"He's had an outstanding season so far; he's a top goalkeeper. This injury doesn't change anything for us. In the end, we will make a decision together with Manu."

Eberl confirmed that contract talks with Bayern's club-mate Konrad Laimer, meanwhile, have halted.

"We would like to extend Konny's contract," he said.

"Talks have taken place, but things are currently on hold. But that's not a problem, there's no resentment or ill will.

"We have our own ideas, and they have their own ideas, and those ideas have to align. Right now they don't, but that's okay.

"We're extremely happy that he's back, that he's healthy again, and that he's now available."
