Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea target Mathys Tel appeared to wave farewell to Bayern Munich fans after being handed a surprise start in the Champions League by Vincent Kompany.
With just a few days left until the close of the January transfer window, Spurs and United are preparing to rival Chelsea in a bid to sign the 19-year-old striker, who has declared his desire to leave Bayern Munich over a lack of game time.
The teenager was selected to start the German giants' final Champions League group phase game against Slovan Bratislava on Wednesday night, lining up alongside Leroy Sane and former Tottenham captain Harry Kane as part of Kompany's front three.
Thomas Muller, Kane and substitute Kingsley Coman all scored to hand Bayern a comfortably 3-1 victory in Bavaria, which left the Bundesliga club in 12th place and through to the playoff phase.
Bayern could draw reigning Premier League champions Manchester City in their must-win playoff, with Pep Guardiola's side narrowly avoiding elimination altogether thanks to a 3-1 win over Belgian outfit Club Bruges.
Shortly after being substituted by Kompany, Tel walked down the touchline and gestured towards the home support, first waving with his left hand before giving them a round of applause.
Given that several clubs are eyeing up a move ahead of the January transfer deadline, Tel's involvement in the Champions League on Wednesday night could be his last for the club.
Spurs enquired for Tel previously when they sold Kane to Bayern and they have discussed a permanent transfer, as have Chelsea.
In addition to Tel, Tottenham have a concrete interest in Southampton’s teenager Tyler Dibling and would be open to signing the youngster this month.
Tottenham have been offered AC Milan winger Noah Okafor, who failed a medical at RB Leipzig earlier this month but has returned to training.
Spurs' new signing Min-Hyeok Yang, 18, has also joined QPR on loan.
Meanwhile, United are keen on a loan for Tel but need to see what unfolds with Alejandro Garnacho and Marcus Rashford over the next 48 hours.
Rashford, who publicly announced his wish to leave Man United for a new opportunity abroad earlier this month, was left out of Ruben Amorim 's 21-man squad for Thursday's Europa League trip to Bucharest.
The ex-England star, who was seen cracking a smile, trained with the rest of the Red Devils squad on Wednesday morning, with Mail Sport in attendance.
Amorim chose, however, to leave the forward back in Manchester just days after suggesting he would rather play 63-year-old goalkeeping coach Jorge Vital than bring Rashford back into the fold.
The Red Devils and Bayern remain attentive to developments with Chelsea's Christopher Nkunku also.
