David Beckham told Minnesota United to "show a little respect" after taking exception to a social media post in the wake of their win over Inter Miami.

Beckham is a co-owner of the MLS club, and saw his star-studded team thrashed 4-1 by Minnesota to heap a fourth defeat in five games in all competitions on Miami.

Bongokuhle Hlongwane, Anthony Markanich and Robin Lod all scored for Minnesota in Saturday's victory, with Marcelo Weigandt adding an own goal.

It was the heaviest loss that Miami have suffered since Lionel Messi, who scored early in the second half, joined the club in July 2023.

Following the win, Minnesota posted a photo from the game on Instagram, including the standings, which showed the Loons moving above Miami.

The post was captioned "Pink Phony Club" in reference to Miami's kit color and the Chappell Roan song Pink Pony Club, prompting Beckham to respond in the comments: "Show a little respect, be elegant in triumph".

Minnesota followed it up with a second post showing a banner from the game, which read: "History over hype, culture over cash", with the words "hype" and "cash" highlighted in pink.

The former Manchester United, Real Madrid and LA Galaxy midfielder commented on that one: "Respect over everything".

It was just a second league defeat in 2025 for Miami, who were also knocked out of the Concacaf Champions Cup in the semifinals by current Supporters' Shield leaders, the Vancouver Whitecaps.

Miami, who face the San Jose Earthquakes in MLS on Wednesday, now sit sixth in the overall standings, with Minnesota one point above them.
