Dimitar Berbatov revealed that he was drawn to Manchester United by the club's prestige, with the manager and playing staff proving a difficult prospect to say no to in 2008.
The Bulgarian striker joined the Red Devils at the end of the 2007-08 season from Premier League rivals Tottenham on a £30.75million transfer, having excelled up top for the north London outfit.
At the time Sir Alex Ferguson's all-conquering side had won a second title on the spin and were gearing up for a third, with the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Carlos Tevez and Wayne Rooney all firing up front.
However, Spurs were also fielding interest from United's rivals Manchester City at the time, although Berbatov remained confident that there was only one destination for him.
In an interview with BT Sport on their What I Wore feature with Andrew Mensah, Berbatov revealed that there was 'no comparison' to United 15 years ago when he arrived.
'The badge, the history, the manager, the players, the trophies!' the former striker said. 'Back in the day there was no comparison, no second guesses and no choices to be made - just one!
'In my mind there was one step really left to take for me to reach (the top of) my mountain, my personal top.
'One of the reasons I wanted to be part of this team was because of the players. I mean, who doesn't want to play with players like (Ronaldo, Rooney, Tevez)? You want to be there, you want to be part of that team and test yourself against the best players.'
Berbatov's time at Old Trafford was a fruitful one, with the Bulgarian earning two Premier League titles, a pair of Champions League runners-up medals, and a League Cup and Club World Cup title.
In his four-season stint at the club, the now 42-year-old won at least one trophy in each calendar year, lifting an additional two Community Shields and finishing as the top-flight's leading goal scorer in 2010-11 with 20.
Much of that success he attributed to the 'mentality' at the club, claiming that 'everything is about the win' at Man United at that time.
'It was challenging, fun - you need to have fun along the way - but you need to hold your own,' he added. 'If someone yells at you then you need to yell back, otherwise they're going to walk all over you.
'The mentality was different because they were winning every day. You fight, you scream, you curse, but everything is about the win. When you stop the game or the training session, everything is left on the pitch.'
He would later join Fulham, but it was at Spurs that Berbatov made himself truly known to English football fans, in large part due to the quality of the goals that he scored.
And the striker himself admitted that his infamous long-range volley against Middlesbrough was up their among his favourite - although he argued that he was a 'specialist' in the spectacular.
'One of my favourite goals, because it was a scissor kick, which I was a specialist in to be honest I was practicing volleys, scissor kicks, bicycle kicks - these type of goals.
'When you score them, even though your mind is going crazy, you can still hear the fans going "Woah!. Similar to when you would do a trick, and when I did them I could always hear the crowd, and in my head I always thought "That's how you do it!" because I always want to be an entertainer.'
