'Better now than this summer' – Pulisic certain USA goal drought will end

Christian Pulisic admits he has been frustrated by his recent performances for the United States, but he is confident his goal drought will end before the World Cup.

After failing to find the net in the USA's 5-2 friendly defeat to Belgium on Saturday, Pulisic has not scored in his last seven outings for his country.

Pulisic's last goal for the USA came against New Zealand in November 2024, while he was one of several senior players to miss last year's run to the Concacaf Gold Cup final.

And although he has enjoyed another productive campaign overall with AC Milan, scoring 10 goals and providing three assists in 27 games across all competitions, he has also endured a downturn at club level lately.

Indeed, Pulisic has gone 12 games without a goal for the Rossoneri since netting against Verona in their final match of 2025, despite having 29 shots with a total expected goals (xG) value of 3.4 during that dry spell.

The USA face Portugal in another friendly in Atlanta on Tuesday, and Pulisic is not panicking about his lack of goalscoring form.

"It's frustrating for me; it's been a tough patch. But I feel confident in the way I'm playing," Pulisic said after Saturday's loss.

"I feel good, and I'm creating chances. So I just have to stay positive and keep going.

"I don't like to think of it, really, as a rough patch. To be honest, even in the second half, I felt really good and sharp.

"I'll see where things went wrong, I guess, and work to improve them, and come up with a plan. Then we'll fight to get a good result and put it behind us.

"I know a ball will hit off my knee and go in, and then things will change. So I'm not going to panic. Better now than this summer. Things are going to change."

Pulisic had more touches in Belgium's penalty area than any other USA player, with seven, but he failed to hit the target from any of his three shots, which had an xG value of 0.2.

He also won just one of his five duels contested, though his 14 passes in the final third were a joint-high among USA players, alongside Malik Tillman, and he also created one chance.

Boss Mauricio Pochettino also has no long-term concerns about Pulisic, saying: "Christian is playing. And of course, he's not scoring, but for me, it's not only [about] goals.

"For me, I am happy with him; in the way that he's performing, in the way that he's committed to the team, and in the time that he's playing."
