Arthur's loan spell at Werder Bremen is progressing well, though he still has untapped potential. In a last-minute transfer window move, Bremen secured Arthur on a one-year loan from Bayer Leverkusen to cover for injured right-backs Mitchell Weiser and Agu. After six matches, the Brazilian has settled in. Arthur is technically excellent and dependable, but he needs to play with more confidence.
Manager Clemens Fritz stated, "He absolutely can and should have more confidence in himself. Arthur certainly has that ability."
Greater self-belief could unlock Arthur's full value for Werder Bremen. In the match against Paderborn, he fought relentlessly until the final whistle, nearly exhausted. At the end of the match, he dropped to the ground with a calf cramp. It was his best performance for Bremen to date, operating as a right-sided engine.
His previous outing against Dortmund had disappointed the coaching staff. Coach Tietjens said, "We didn't see good moments in Dortmund, and those are exactly what we demand from him." Against Paderborn, Arthur delivered: he won 62% of his duels and displayed strong attacking intent.
In the match against the promoted side, he reached a top speed of 35.27 km/h, making him Bremen's fastest player this season. Fritz believes Arthur is "almost unstoppable." However, he has yet to register a goal or assist: 6 appearances, 0 goals, 0 assists. Last season, he scored 1 goal and provided 3 assists in 20 league appearances for Bayer Leverkusen.
What is certain is that after this season, he will return to the Champions League club. Arthur joined Bayer Leverkusen from América FC in 2023 for €7 million on a contract through 2031. Werder Bremen has no purchase option. Arthur said, "I want to give my all during my time in Bremen, help the team, and create happy moments here." So far, he appears to be on the right track.
