Bodo Glimt 0-2 Tottenham (agg 1-5): Solanke & Porro book final ticket for Spurs

  /  R47

Tottenham booked their place in the Europa League final with a 2-0 win over Bodo/Glint in the semi-final second leg on Thursday, winning 5-1 on aggregate.

Match Report

Dominic Solanke and Pedro Porro scored the all-important goals in the second half as Spurs survived some scares early on from their hosts.

Ange Postecoglou's team have reached their first European final since 2019 when they lost to Liverpool in the showpiece match in the Champions League, and will now face Manchester United, who thumped Athetic Bilbao 7-1 on aggregate in the other semi-final.

Ole Didrik Blomberg was left unmarked at the far post on an eighth-minute corner, but rushed his effort, firing into the side netting under no pressure.

Destiny Udogie then saw a low drive across the face of goal pushed away by Nikita Haikin, who then tipped Porro's dipping free-kick over the crossbar.

Spurs grew into the game as the first half wore on, with Yves Bissouma trying his luck from the edge of the box following a corner, but his effort sailed just over the top.

It was all Postecoglou's side in the second half, and they found their breakthrough in the 63rd minute. Mathys Tel swung an inviting corner into the box, and Cristian Romero towered above everybody to nod it down into the six-yard box for Solanke to poke past Haikin.

Just six minutes later, their fate was sealed. Udogie broke quickly down the left and patiently spread it right with the help of Dejan Kulusevski. He teed up Porro, who looked like he was attempting a cross, but Haikin was caught out by the flight of the ball, and it nestled into the back of the net.

Bodo/Glimt kept pushing until the end, with Sondre Sorli drilling a powerful shot on goal, but it was straight down the middle at Guglielmo Vicario.

In the closing seconds, the referee awarded the hosts a penalty as it looked like Porro felled Sorli in the box, but following a VAR review, the decision was overturned as the defender did not make contact with the substitute.

Data Debrief: One step from glory

Spurs had not won back-to-back away games in major European competition since November 2013, but a professional performance saw them end that run in Norway.

In fact, this was their ninth consecutive win in the Europa League, doing so for the first time in their history in a major European competition.

Solanke played his part, recording his ninth goal contribution in the competition this season (five goals, four assists).
