Bombshell from Koeman: Informs Riqui Puig he's no longer needed at Barcelona

Ronald Koeman has reportedly told Riqui Puig that he no longer needs his services at Barcelona.

The player was left out of the Barcelona squad for the Gamper Trophy match against Elche on Saturday night.

According to Rac1, Koeman informed the Barcelona youth product of his decision in the last few hours, and Puig must now look for a new team before the end of the transfer window.

The decision was a surprise for the player, who is seen by some at the club and the fans as one of the best talents at the Camp Nou, as well as one of the pillars on which to build the new side.

However, Koeman has completely ended any hope of that happening.

Puig failed to make an impact under Ernesto Valverde, but he saw his status elevated under Quique Setien, despite his appearances being sporadic.

Over time though he earned his spot in the Barcelona side, and started matches against Celta and Atletico Madrid at the end of last season.
