Chelsea have announced that head coach Sonia Bompastor has extended her contract through to 2030.

Bompastor joined the club ahead of the 2024-25 season and had a memorable debut campaign, completing an unbeaten domestic treble with the Blues.

The former Lyon boss won 19 and drew three Women’s Super League games in 2024-25, as Chelsea became the first English women’s team since 2000-01 to complete a domestic season unbeaten, also recording the highest points tally in WSL history in the process (60).

Overall, Bompastor has won 27 of her 36 WSL matches at the helm (D6 L3), with the Blues scoring 81 goals across those games while averaging 2.4 points per match.

In WSL history, only current Manchester City boss Andree Jeglertz averages more points per game in the competition (2.79 – minimum 10 games in charge).

Chelsea have struggled in the league this season, though, with their 5-1 defeat at City last time out leaving them 12 points behind their title rivals, though they have qualified for the League Cup final.

Bompastor said after the City defeat that she would walk away if Chelsea's supporters no longer thought she was the right person for the job, but now, she is staying put.

“I am delighted to extend my stay here,” Bompastor told the Chelsea website.

“I want to thank the club for their unwavering support and the trust they have shown in me. It’s a privilege to lead this team and I could not be prouder to represent Chelsea.

“Our fans have made me feel at home since the day I arrived, and I am grateful for the many special moments we have shared together so far.

“Lifting the WSL trophy at Stamford Bridge and FA Cup at Wembley with our supporters are memories I will never forget.”
