Brazil seeking 9th consecutive World Cup knockout win

On June 30, Brazil will face Japan in the FIFA World Cup round of 16.

Statistics show that Brazil has won their opening knockout match in eight consecutive FIFA World Cups. Their last knockout loss dates back to 1990, when the Samba Boys fell 0-1 to Argentina in the round of 16.

However, Brazil has been eliminated four times in their last six FIFA World Cup knockout matches, surpassing their eliminations in the previous 17 knockout matches combined.

Japan will contest their fifth FIFA World Cup knockout match in history, having lost all four previous encounters in the knockout stage.
