Brazilian football: Chaos at Under-20 match as a GUN FIGHT

This is the horror moment where Brazilian footballers fled for safety after loud gun fire broke loose during an Under-20 match in Macaé over the weekend.

Twenty nine minutes into the second half of a B1 Serie of Carioca U-20 game between Serra Macaense and Carapebus, young footballers rushed off the field of play due to a frightening shootout.

Video footage from the game at the Moacyrzão Stadium shows the Carapebus goalkeeper down receiving treatment for an injury picked up during the game before loud gunshots could be heard ringing out.

Initially, players and coaching staff could not understand what was going on before dispersing for cover as the shooting intensified. The injured goalkeeper managed to get up and limp away from the field to find protection.

According to Brazilian outlet UoL, the terrifying gunshots were the result of a police operation in a community next to the stadium.

Nobody was hurt and the game did not continue, with the Court of Sports Justice to determine the outcome of the contest. The two teams were tied at 0-0 at the time of the incident and the organisation will determine whether the game needs to be replayed or whether the result will stand at 0-0.

The shooting also meant that the women's Carioca Championship game between Serra Macaense and Duque de Caxi was also cancelled, with the game set to be staged at the same ground after the U-20 game.

Breno Monsef, who was on commentary duty for the third division game, said that the shooting lasted roughly 40 minutes.

'Clearly the players started to see if that was really happening and, when they realized it, they ran for cover,' he told UoL.

'The shot went on for 40 minutes. With intensity it was about 20 minutes, then it was sporadic.' Monsef said he was commentating from a makeshift structure in one of the changing rooms, as the stadium booths were closed.

The incident in Macaé was followed by another shooting during a game in South America over the weekend, with an Argentinian match thrown into chaos as a gun fight broke loose towards the end of the match.

Players from Huracan las Heras and Ferro Carril Oeste were filmed fleeing the pitch after football manager Mauricio Romero - who coaches Ferro - was hit with the bullet.

He was treated at the scene before being taken to hospital where he is said to be 'doing well and out of danger.'

The shock incident happened towards the end of a third-tier match between home side Huracan and Ferro in Las Heras in the western Argentinian province of Mendoza.

Witnesses said the shooting started outside the stadium but continued inside as hooligan home fans tried to force their way into the ground.

Families watching from the stands threw themselves to the ground as the gunshots rang out.

Romero, wearing a yellow reflective jacket, was seen grabbing his left shoulder after being hit with players ducking down before sprinting towards the changing rooms along with match officials.

The injured man's club released a statement after the scare, which led to the match being called off with ten minutes to play.

'Mauricio Romero suffered a gunshot wound to his left shoulder but he is doing okay and out of danger.'

He is already thought to have been interviewed by police after filing a complaint and the Argentinian Football Association has now launched an inquiry.

There were no immediate reports of any arrests.
