After losing 0-1 to Inter in the UEFA Champions League, the Reds asserted their dominance today at the Amex against Seagulls with a comfortable 2-0.
Match Report
Liverpool picked up a comfortable 2-0 win away at Brighton on Saturday afternoon to keep themselves within three points of Premier League leaders Manchester City.
Entering the game on the back of a 1-0 home defeat to Inter, despite qualifying for the next round of the Champions League, and the need to win at all costs meant that a few nerves for those in red shirts was understandable.
It was a cagey affair in the opening exchanges, but Liverpool found the breakthrough on 19 minutes when Joel Matip - recently named February's Premier League player of the month - picked out Luis Diaz who nodded the ball beyond the onrushing Robert Sanchez.
The Colombian was clattered in the process by the Spanish international goalkeeper, who escaped without a red card after a VAR check.
The match was put to bed on the hour mark when Mohamed Salah converted from the spot following Yves Bissouma's handball. The Egyptian smashed the ball straight down the middle of the net for his 20th league goal.
Brighton went on to have a few good chances, namely through Leandro Trossard who was unable to find elevation on his shot as Alisson came out to narrow the angle, but couldn't get a goal that would've provided a nervy finish for the visitors.
Liverpool remain three points behind leaders City, who visit Crystal Palace on Monday night.

Why is nobody talking about Matip’s sublime assist? Only creative midfielders make that kind of pass. No doubt he is the best attacking centre half in the league when he has the ball at his feet👏👏👏

I got slagged off by someone on this app a couple of weeks ago for suggesting that Díaz could be the January signing of the season. Yes there's still a long way to go but it wouldn't surprise me if this bloke continues having a big impact for Liverpool for the remainder of the season
