Brighton have turned down an improved offer of £70m from Chelsea for midfielder Moises Caicedo.
The Blues made a £60m bid for the Ecuadorian last month but this was knocked back, and their second proposal received short shrift from Brighton as well.
The £70m offer was rejected within seconds on Monday, and Brighton remain insistent that they do not want or need to sell Caicedo.
The 21-year-old only signed a new deal at the Amex Stadium in March which runs until 2027, and the Seagulls have the option to extend it by a further 12 months.
This leaves them in a strong negotiating position, and they are still holding out for £100m, highlighting how far apart the two clubs are in their valuations of Caicedo.
Caicedo claimed last week that he would be unable to turn down the chance to join Chelsea, and labelled them a 'beautiful club' but Brighton are continuing to stand firm.
They have already sold Alexis Mac Allister this summer, and have no intention of losing Caicedo to another Premier League club for a figure below their asking price.
It is a blow for Chelsea, who are desperately trying to rebuild after a dismal 2022-23 campaign.
The club finished 12th in the Premier League, with Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter and Frank Lampard all unable to get the best out of the players in Todd Boehly's first year as owner.
Big changes were expected under new manager Mauricio Pochettino this summer, and the club have added Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson to their squad.
However, they are yet to bring in any midfielders, while N'Golo Kante, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have all left the club.
This has left Pochettino with only six midfielders to take on the club's pre-season tour of the US, and they average just 7.6 Premier League starts each for Chelsea.
Chelsea and Brighton are set to face each other in Philadelphia on July 26, and a deal for Caicedo looks increasingly unlikely to be struck before then as the Blues continue to struggle to make a breakthrough in negotiations.

Leave Brighton alone, when it comes to Chelsea prices are always outrageous. What become of Vves Bissouma at Tottenham, Cucurella at Chelsea. If is Liverpool, Caicedo will be valued at £40m. Go and buy Paulinha of Fulham.
