Brighton goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has been called up to Luis Enrique's Spain squad less than two years after featuring in League One and Two.

Sanchez has replaced Chelsea outcast Kepa Arrizabalaga for his first national capp up and lines up alongside Manchester United stopper David de Gea and Athletic Bilbao's Unai Simon.

Sanchez has quickly become a mainstay in Graham Potter's Premier League side after plying his trade with Forest Green and Rochdale in the lower leagues up until last season.

The 23-year-old has kept six clean sheets in 17 appearances for the relegation-threatened Seagulls after replacing Mat Ryan, who joined Arsenal in January.

David de Gea's involvement in Enrique's side has also come at a slight surprise with his recent absence from the United squad due to personal reasons.

The goalkeeper returned to Spain recently for the birth of his first child Noah as Dean Henderson stepped up in his place.

Enrqiue has also made some big decisions for his outfield players, with Barcelona youngster Pedri receiving his first national call-up along with Manchester City star Pedro Porro who is currently on loan at Sporting CP.

Liverpool's Thiago Alcantara and City's Rodri, Ferran Torres and Eric Garcia are all involved for Spain's upcoming matches while stalwarts Sergio Ramos and Sergio Busquets keep their place in a rather fresh-faced Spanish squad.

Spain begin their World Cup 2022 qualifying campaign against Greece on Thursday, before travelling to Georgia and returning home for a third match against Kosovo in a busy week for Enrique's side.
