Bruno Guimaraes has claimed Newcastle do not need players like Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo for their project.
Ronaldo, 37, expressed it was his desire to leave Old Trafford in the summer but the only concrete offer he received was from a club in Saudi Arabia, which ultimately meant he stayed, eventually leading him to do an interview with Piers Morgan this week.
Although it's now expected that Ronaldo has played his last game for the club, there is currently a lack of options for the centre-forward and the 'richest team in the world' Newcastle have already distanced themselves from the player.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe said the North East club need to prioritise 'long-term growth' when asked about Ronaldo last month, while their flagship signing Guimaraes has also now insisted the team don't need huge names like Ronaldo.
Guimaraes has been a revelation in the Premier League but he's warned Newcastle need to sign players who are coming for the right reasons.
“The way I agreed to come to the club was also something remarkable. Today anyone wants to come to Newcastle, the richest team in the world, but I arrived with the team doing bad, pointed out as virtually relegated," Guimaraes told UOL. "Trippier and I were the first to believe in the project, so fans have a special affection. I think Newcastle need players with that mentality, it’s not about signing everyone just because they have money. It’s not bringing Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Mbappe. It’s not like this.”

Four players were mentioned and one name was used as the headline. CR7 is far bigger a star than the rest and he's equally bigger than the history and future generations of Newcastle fc
