Bruno Fernandes has criticised his Manchester United teamamates for 'not killng the game straightaway' during their FA Cup clash with Newport County.

Erik ten Hag's men ran out eventual 4-2 winners but were given a rocky time in patches by the Welsh side.

Fernandes himsef opened the scoring after just seven minutes before youngster Kobbie Mainoo grabbed a second.

But a wonder goal from Bryn Morris and poachers finish by Will Evans saw the League Two side draw level.

Goals from Antony and Rasmus Hojlund ensured United progressed through to the next round but Fernandes has slammed his side for not killing the game off and being too selfish.

Speaking after the game Fernandes said: "No obviously wasn't the result that we wanted. We wanted to win, we got it but the result was not the perfect one for us.

"We didn't want it to concede goals obviously the first one. It's a great goal from them. Unbelievable. Unbelievable shot.

"After we have to be more focused in the second half, we cant concede another goal and let them have some belief. We have to kill the game straightaway in the first half, we had chances to make the three nil.

"But because when you get two nil this kind of games everyone wants to try to score get their goal and everything and sometimes we don't get the best decision for the team.

"We didn't they got to to one obviously bit of belief second off the start and they get a goal. But I think after we did a great job to close the game."

United play Bristol City or Nottingham Forest in the next round and will be hoping for smoother sailing when taking on either side.
