Buffon: Spalletti should've been appointed by Juventus at start of season

Juventus legend Gigi Buffon is happy with the appointment of Luciano Spalletti as new coach.

Spalletti has succeeded Igor Tudor after his dismissal last week and won in Cremonese for his first game in charge.

Buffon is pleased and said, "They started well, I don't know how convinced they were about the project. Seeing the decision made a few days ago (Tudor's sacking) and the timing of it, makes me think there wasn't all that much conviction initially.

"Then you went and put the best prospect there was: the choice of Luciano (Spalletti) can guarantee the Juventus fans a series of results that fans and the club are waiting for. I'm only disappointed for one thing: I would have liked to see someone like him from the start of the season, with his preparation, the selection of some players.

"At that point, Juve could have been competitive until the end, but then I don't know if they won or not."

On Tudor, he also told Viva el Futebol: "It seems to me that there was some empathy issue with the management.

"Reading the papers, that seems to have come out. Only those inside know the truth. I'm talking about empathy with the management.

"Looking at the last two or three interviews he's given... I'm thinking of the one after Como. A journalist who hears this can't ask the next question about that, but they clearly didn't get it. I thought: if I were a journalist, I'd have a field day here, but they didn't get it."
