Davide Calabria tried to find the positives after Milan’s Champions League semi-final loss to Inter and explained Edin Dzeko’s opening goal.
The Bosnian veteran put the Nerazzurri ahead after just eight minutes following a corner, when he muscled off Calabria to strike the ball past Mike Maignan, giving Simone Inzaghi’s an early advantage to work with. Inter did not let up and doubled their lead just three minutes later through Hakan Calhanoglu.
The odds are now stacked against Milan heading into the second leg next week, needing to overcome a two-goal deficit. They’ll be hoping for the return of star winger Rafael Leao, something that could have an important impact on the tie.
Speaking to Sky Sports Italia after the match, Calabria first reacted to Milan’s loss to Inter.
“It has already happened several times that their attacking phase put us in trouble. Too many chances, too many lost moves….”
He explained how Dzeko scored the opener for the Nerazzurri.
“He’s clearly bigger than me, there’s little we can do. We have to improve because we’ve always struggled with them recently.”
Finally, Calabria commented on what Milan need to do in the second leg against Inter.
“We must be more cynical in front of goal, we had the chances. If you score a goal the game changes. It’s not lost yet, we will do our best as we have done so far, they are strong and have great players coming off the bench, but we will have to be better at finishing.”
