Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's wife has tested positive for the new coronavirus.

Mr Trudeau announced on Thursday that he was in self-isolation and working from home after his wife came down with flu-like symptoms after travelling to London.

Sophie Gregoire Trudeau was in London last week to speak at a WE day event at Wembley Stadium about women's empowerment alongside former Australian prime minister Julia Gillard and the pop star Leona Lewis to an audience of 13,000 young people.

This year speakers also included the actor Idris Elba, the British TV chef Jamie Oliver, the Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton, the model Adwoa Aboah, and the actor Gwendoline Christie, who played Brienne of Tarth from Game of Thrones.

She was seen shaking hands with several attendees and pictured posing with a number of the young delegates.

The Prime Minister, who is not exhibiting symptoms, joins two ministers from his cabinet who have also chosen to go into self-isolation because of possible exposure to the virus.
